spring is here???

The weather here in Colorado is weird!  Love it, but it's abnormal.

See all of that snow on the mountain behind my house?  It's from last week's snowstorm.  And from the ice-over before that.

Yesterday it was 70 degrees outside.  The day before that...68 degrees.

Now, I am not complaining. At all.

I love it!

But it's also a little bit strange.

Just to even things out we are expecting snow this weekend.  That should give me some time to work on this quilt top that I put together using a Mirabelle Layer Cake.  So very simple!

Just the way I like things!

This weekend I had lots of time to work on my Pam Kitty Garden Quilt blocks.  And I am loving how these are coming out.  So vintage-y and happy, don't you think?

I am using the Spin Cycle pattern to make these.  So simple really.  Just a good amount of pieces to sew together.  This will not be a quick one for me, simply because sit-down sewing time is not abundant, and I have other things to work on too.

But that's OK since this one is a very peaceful project for me.  Totally enjoying it!

something new

Sometimes a girl has to do something  besides sew!

A day on a snowmobile is just what I needed!  Doing new things is always fun, don't you think?

Here at home it was snowing all day, but up in Breckenridge it was not sunny, but it only snowed a little bit.  This made for a not-so-cold day for us.  And if I am going to be outside in the snow, I need to be not-cold!

Otherwise I complain too much.  And who wants that?

The drive home was a little slippery, but still good.  There was not much that could erase the goodness of the day!

Hello, Friends!

Welcome to SHOW AND TELL TUESDAY!

I finished my little 2-in-1 pouch and I love it!

I got hung up right at the end of making this, but I managed.  Whenever I use a pattern, I struggle, so it's not the pattern, it's me!  Learning to do something while someone shows me works a lot better for me.  But that doesn't mean I shouldn't try a pattern now and then, right?

Right now I carry the tiniest purse ever and I am ready for something new.  The bigger 2-in-1 pouch will be my wallet for a bigger purse.

The funny thing about carrying a tiny purse is that it just keeps getting fatter and fatter, until I take all of the junk out.  Just like a big purse.  So back I go...

quilting along with the girls

The girls were really ready to sew after our long break!  We actually finished this in about 1/2 the time I allowed.  

"Motivation" was the word for our class!

I asked the girls is they wanted to continue making blocks, or if they wanted to put together a lap quilt and move onto other things.  All of them voted to keep going on blocks, and they suggested that they want to do all 20.  

One of our girls was new to the class and she loved it!  She is 15 and has decided that quilting is her new hobby.  I think I can help her out with that!

ten things i like about winter

OK, I have to admit that this one is a challenge for me.  I am not a winter-lover.  Being from Southern California, I am very content with temps around 85 to 90 degrees---as it should be, if you ask me. But since I now live in Colorado, it gets a lot colder and I complain a lot.  

This is my effort to be thankful.

Here goes.  Ten things I like about winter:

1. The frost.  I love when it covers trees and makes them look like giant snowflakes.

2. Coffee.  Lots and lots of coffee. It keeps me warm.

3. Fires in the woodstove.

4. Sweaters and scarves and gloves and boots.

5. More time inside to sew. It's warm in here, so why leave?

6. Bubble baths.  Another effort to be warm.

7. No bugs.

8. No sweating.

9. No lawn care needed.

10. Counting down to spring.

I love spring. And summer. And fall.

And I am pretty sure they are just around the corner.

I thought I would be farther along in this project, but DOE arrived in my shop yesterday, so I was busy with that.  Hopefully today I will be finishing this little 2-in-1 pouch that I bought from Sotak Handmade's Etsy shop.

So far this pattern has proven to be very usable and well-written. I think I am going to love this  little pouch, because I am very much a fan of small purses.  This will be my first little wallet!
