show and tell tuesday

Today I have something to show, but it's only half mine!

My daughter painted these adorable designs, and then I made them in pillows.  They are for her friend's birthday.

I LOVE that my girl and her friends are Disney fans, because I certainly am!  When I was a teenager, I loved about 4 blocks from Disneyland, and never quite appreciated it until we moved away.  Now I just love going there, and I think it's such ridiculous fun and quite magical.  We all need a little of that now and then, don't you think?

turning

This weekend my daughter and I drove up to see the changing leaves, but found that they weren't quite turned enough to suit my liking.  But we did have a great time and I shot a few pictures.

This gal is a hard one to photograph (just like me when I was her age!).  I have to either surprise her or take one when she isn't looking.  

Next weekend should be ideal for the aspens.  So, a little trip is on the calendar once again.  This is one of most beautiful times of the year here in Colorado.  And with all of the rain this summer, the colors should be great.

The last several years have been pretty, but drought conditions have limited the amount of reds and oranges in the trees.  So excited to see the blaze of color this time!

it's going to be a pinteresting weekend!

The leaves are turning, so that means I will be out in the mountains with my camera this weekend!  Fall leaves are just about my favorite thing to photograph simply because they are so colorful!  And I love how the light plays with the fall colors!

a little more useful

My sewing room slowly but surely became a junk room---kind of like a junk drawer.  If I didn't know where to put something (or just didn't feel like putting it away), it went in my room.  All kinds of things were piling up and I couldn't stand going in there, much less working in there.

All it took was about one hour of time to organize it again and make it look inviting.

I am definitely NOT one of those creative people that function well in chaos.  I function best in organization, although things do get out of hand during a project since I like to save the clean-up until the end.  This type of thinking makes dinner time prep very messy for the clean-up crew!

But I don't mind since, generally, that is not me!

I am  unsure at this point what my next project will be.  But I do feel a project calling my name.  Just need to figure out which one it is!

show and tell tuesday

Welcome to SHOW AND TELL TUESDAY!

A finish!  Yes!

And it was done on time.

That actually surprised me since it was quite a time-crunch to get this one done.

This quilt is based on Blue Elephant Stitches Pixelated Heart Quilt, but I used 5-inch squares for mine.  The finished quilt is approximately 6 feet by 6 feet--a little bigger than I anticipated, but a great size nonetheless.

For the backing I went with Polka Dots and Flowers, and I quilted along each side of the edge of each square.  Very simple, albeit a little time-consuming:

 

And for the binding: gingham.  One of my favorites.  So sweet and colorful and, just like polka dots, so happy:

I fully enjoyed making this quilt and am happy with the result.  The couple receiving it are just the cutest, most in-love couple ever, and I wish them many years of goodness.

making

Makers gotta make.

That is a true expression for me.  I love making things.

It makes me happy.

A friend and I make pickes every year, and we are once again stocked up for the year.  No more Vlasic for this family!

I have a refrigerator in my garage just to house the pickles---all 25 quarts of them.  That way they stay crisper since we can avoid water bathing.

A friend of mine had a big birthday, so a party was in order.  So was a homemade carrot cake.  With cream cheese frosting.

Yes, it was good.

Really good!

 

Next up on the "making" schedule?

Soap.  Some friends want a "how-to".

Beer.  Yes, I brew.  Well, I brewed once and the batch turned out terrible.  This time we are shooting for new results!

Halloween costumes. Is it really that time of the year again?
