i {heart} shoes

Oh, yes, I love shoes!

Not girly shoes, but shoes like Vans, Converse and Doc Martens.  This girl rarely wears heels!

I found these Hello Kitty Vans a couple of weeks ago and they were 50% off.

Have I mentioned that I love Hello Kitty?

And that I LOVE a good sale?

Oh my gosh, these were like a perfect storm for my feet!

I met a little girl at a basketball game last weekend and she had a Hello Kitty watch on.  We bonded, to say the least.  She sat by me the whole time, pretty much snuggling me and being my best buddy.  It was really cute.  

Shoes and Hello Kitty do that, I guess.

learning something new

A few opportunities to photograph people have popped up lately, which is nice since I really want to develop my skills in this area.  These pictures are from a sweet-16 photo shoot, and I have an upcoming infant session, a toddler session, a family portrait and a wedding.  "Yikes" on the wedding, but I have several months to prepare!

I found that I need to find out a few important things about people pics:

1. Poses.  I really felt lacking in figuring out poses for this gal.

2. What should people do with their hands.

3. And their feet.

4. Staging people is interesting because you always have to be on the lookout for what is behind them.  A few pics had buildings and trees I didn't notice while shooting the picture.

5. Beautiful subjects make for pretty good photographs!

This lovely gal is my friend's daughter and she is a beauty, for sure.  Her smile lights up everything around her and she is just the sweetest.

If anyone has any great photography resources, I would love to know about them.  Websites?  Books? Videos?  I am looking to learn....:)

Hello, Friends! It's SHOW AND TELL TUESDAY!

I managed to cut all of my hexies pieces out.  They are not "hexied" yet, but they are waiting to be so. It will only take me about 75 hours to get them done.

I am joking and I am not.  Hexies take a while!

My plan is to make them into some sort of handbag.  Not sure which one, but this one is great! I have made it before and I love the shape and size.  We will see...

new bundles!

I have listed several new bundles in my shop!    The pink one is my favorite since it reminds me of bubble-gum!

modern quilt club hexies

 

We tackled Hexies in quilt club this month!  They are actually quite fun to make and they are perfect for using up scraps.

I think I am going to cut some more scraps up and enlarge this piece for a totebag.  Between this weekend's football games and the upcoming superbowl, I will have plenty of hand sewing time!

Yeah for sports!  :)

My baby quilt is coming along.  This layout is so simple and fun, and it's perfect for a quick quilt.  The top goes together in about one hour.  Yippee!

The baby this belongs to has been born, so I can't dawdle on this one.  My hope is to find some time this week to quilt it, but open spots on my calendar are not plenty.  We will see!

one of my "yeses"

Like most people, I am making some changes this year, and one of those things is the way I eat.

Now, I am not making huge, sweeping changes, because that never lasts for me.  But I am trying to eat more "real" food and less processed junk.  Honestly, lately I just don't feel "good" and my energy levels are lower than they should be, so my diet is the first place for me to tackle.

On my other blog I wrote about "yeses" and "nos" that lead to making changes and switching direction in life.  Eating better food is a "yes" for me.

So far I have this salad all ready to go in the refrigerator and I plan to eat it for lunch all week.  For me, being prepared is necessary or I will just reach for the junk.  

With teenagers in the house, there always seems to be junk!

So, there you have it.  A change with a plan attached.  And a yummy plan at that!

i changed my mind

Initially I was going to go with this stack and some stars, but a friend of mine had her baby and I decided to go with girly pinks and greens and a heart.

This little quilt will be similar to this one, but on  a smaller, baby-sized scale.  Hopefully I will get this one done by next week.  

I don't like to keep babies and their mamas waiting!
