show and tell tuesday

And guess what?  I have absolutely nothing to show you.  

Yesterday I posted my piles of pieces for the Pow-Wow quilt and I was hoping to have some time to sew up some blocks, and, oh well...

I did, however, take the time to dig out a lens that I bought for my camera ages ago, but have not used. It's a 24-105 and I am going to keep it on my camera so I can figure out how to use it and find out what it does.

It always seems best to just jump in and do things, don't you agree?

I managed to cut out my newest project. It's a Pow-Wow quilt for a friend of mine.  For the solid I added some RK yarn-dyed linen, and I love how it looks with the other prints.

I really need to sit down and make a full list of things I am working on. It's a huge pile, and, at this point, I don't even know what's in it. I also have a pretty big pile of things my kids need to have mended. Of course, they have been sitting there for months because crafting and mending are two totally different things, ya know?  

And I procrastinate on the  mending pile for as long as I possible can.

Yes, I did!

One more Pillow Pop Top done!

This one was fun to make, not only for picking the colors, but for sewing on curves.  I feel like I finally have the feel of curves, and I have to say that the starch really helps to keep things in place.

Next month I am starting a Pillow Pop class at a local shop. It's a monthly meet-up and we will make one top a month, which will be  a great way to learn some new quilting skills on a small scale.

I am addicted to starting things lately.

Can I develop an addiction to finishing them?

Seeing these little flowers grow under a tree in my front yard is such a blessing.  Seriously makes my heart happy!  It's the little things in life, isn't it?

show and tell tuesday

Welcome to SHOW AND TELL TUESDAY!  Everyone is invited to participate, and there is a list of guidelines below.

Today I have no finishes among my vast supply of ongoing projects, but I did start something new.

That is such a bad habit on my part, but I just can't help it.  Working on projects only inspires me to start new ones!

This layout is for a Pillow Pop.  I am excited to work with curves again.  This time I feel more confident about sewing them than when I did my apple core quilt.  A little starch, a few little cuts on the curve, and I am good to go.

Life has been busy busy--in a really good way--so I don't expect a lot of finishes anytime soon.  For now, a few minutes at the sewing machine will do just fine.

stringing along

Oh my!  Please excuse this terrible picture!  Camera phone pics are not my speciality!

I was down a the sewing store yesterday and I got to sew. all. day.

Nice!

We are going to have a Pillow Pop class and I wanted to get a head start on the some of the projects we have planned.  This one was quite fun to make.

And can you believe it?

I was accused of being a really messy person 3 times.  3 times, I tell ya!

Maybe that never happens because I generally sew by myself, with no one to inspect me.  I guess all of the scraps covering 3 tables was a tip off that I don't sew neatly.  

What can I say? 

peaceful

Yesterday started out peaceful enough, but in the afternoon a fire started very close to our house.

This was taken from the roof of our house.

So yesterday afternoon was a bit stressful.  I didn't realize how stressful until the evening when my stomach was a big knot.  Making decisions about when to go, what to take and where to go, are overwhelming!  I have to say that I am  blessed that the "where to go" part of things was easy.  God has given me amazing friends to lean on!

Anyway, in packing up our stuff I realized something.  I don't have much of value around my house.  That is not to say that my house is not wonderful and almost perfect, but it means that when it comes to leaving, most of my stuff would be staying. I don't care about it.  A few clothes for each of us, my camera and hard drive (for pictures), my laptop (gotta keep the business going), birth certificates and car titles, and my apple core quilt were all that that I would have taken.  

Oh, the animals would have come along too!

Other than than, as long as I had my gang of kids with me, I would have been fine.

And that is the best kind of peace to have on a hard day, don't you think?

***As far as I can tell, fire danger seems to be much lower today.  No wind so far and, although the air is smoky, it's not billowing from behind our mountain.
