It's a very tricky business, you know.
I always love how things get more involved when heavy equipment or impressive tools (like large saws) are involved.
I love my guys!
They even helped to decorate.

I made some lovely sugar scrubs yesterday. My whole kitchen smelled wonderful!
Orange, Cherry and Vanilla Berry scrubs all came together very quickly and the jars I bought at Ikea worked perfectly to hold them.
I actually went to Ikea for the first time on Monday. What a place! Next time I need to bring money, good walking shoes and maybe a GPS to find the exit. We really did feel lost in there for a little while.
So, the scrubs put me just a little closer to Christmas readiness. Next stop is cookies.

This weekend I have a baby shower to attend for a special little one: a very sweet friend of mine is becoming a granny very soon. Our older kids have grown up together and our younger girls are the best of friends, so it will be fun to celebrate with her and her daughter-in-law this weekend.
And I can not wait to officially call her "Granny Pam"!
My friend wanted the honor of making baby's first quilt, so I put together a couple of patchwork bibs and a soft, fleecy blanket with the Children at Play Collection. The babe will arrive in the middle of perfect snuggling weather, so a warm covering is perfect.
It's always fun to look forward to the arrival of a little one, don't you think?
It makes me feel like all is right in the world!

Yesterday, the temps started off at -11! Sheesh!
That's a bit cold for me, but hot chocolate always makes me warm up. My cup was filled a few times during the day.
The nice thing about snow and cold days where we live in Colorado, is the sunshine. You can always count on it. If it snows, the sun will come out tomorrow (oops! I may have just gotten a song stuck in your head!). If it's cold, even -11 degrees cold, the sun is generally shining. And I like that. Somehow it makes the low temps feel bearable.
Of course, I don't go stand outside in the cold or anything like that, but it makes me think that if I did leave my house and my steaming mug of hot chocolate, it would feel bearable outside.
Because the sun is shining.

...to next year!
It's probably premature, but my mind is so full of fun ideas!
I have been thinking about some things that I want to do on my blog starting in January and they involve two things that I love to do: teaching people to sew, and sewing with friends.
It is seriously fun to teach someone to sew a simple item and watch them take off and become addicted to the whole thing like I am. Not only do they gain a hobby, but I gain a new crafting buddy.
And sewing with friends? One of my favorite things to do. It's inspiring, we chat and solve the world's problems in an afternoon, and I don't feel like I am the only one in the world with thread hanging off my clothes. It's great!
Well, I am going to incorporate those two things here on my blog next year in the form of sew-alongs. One per month. I will be posting a project, plus instructions, and we will sew along together so that we can inspire each other and troubleshoot our way through the project. During these projects I will set up a chat room or an instant messaging situation so that you can get instant feedback, plus we can get to know each other. It will be almost like being in the same room together.
Sounds fun, don't you think?
Our first sew-along is scheduled for January 10th, and I will reveal details after Christmas. It's going to be a fun project!
For the first part of the year I am going to stick with smaller projects (like a mini-quilt as opposed to a full-sized quilt) so that more people can participate and we can all work on improving our skills as sew-ers and quilters.
So, if you have any ideas or suggestions for how to make this happen or for fun projects, let me know. I would love to hear what you think!

On Sunday we tried to make our way into the mountains behind our house to find our Christmas tree, but white, slick roads kept us from making it to our destination. I am a bit sad to not have a tree yet, but we will try again next weekend.
I decided to add one small Christmas touch to our house before we get the tree: my new Ruby bunting. I love how it looks on the fireplace. Once the tree comes, the quilt ladder and the book basket will get relocated to the tree can be in it's place, but for now I like the look.
Just a tiny bit of Christmasing.
