i have to say...

we all dressed up!

We attended our annual Halloween party and this time we all dressed up in costumes!

I found the idea for the American Gothic costume on Pinterest and I must say it was super simple to put together and fun to wear.  My hubs was a great sport as I will admit that the guys teased him a little bit for being the only one in costume.  Thanks, Honey!

Josiah was a guy in a wind storm.  I saw this last year on Donna's blog and I bookmarked it hoping one of my boys would want to do it this year.  We used lots of wire to make his clothes stay put:

Aubry was a ladybug.  One of her friends was a bumble bee and another was a butterfly.  They were a bug-trio. 

Micah was Doctor Who, or at least one of the Doctors.  Are anyone else's children as obsessed with this show as mine are?  Their friends are crazy about it too!

One of the kid's friends dressed as Mary Poppins and I just loved her costume and had to show it off.  She made the whole thing herself!

Here is my hubs are I looking a little more chipper. 

It was certainly a fun Halloween celebration!

Today? Sunny and 49 degrees.

Snow days are always the best when followed by sunshine!

wip wednesday (the one with no finishes)

So, a friend of mine arrived at about 10:45 yesterday morning for a sewing day. 

The plan was to sew for about 5 hours.

Did that happen?

Not really!

I started with this pile:

It consists of 3 mini-quilts, 7 kindle pouches, 8 buntings, and a wallhanging.

The plan was to finish most of that pile.

All I did was get 3 buntings pinned.  PINNED!

Not sure how that happened, but it was still a nice day.

Next time I hope accomplish a little more though.

Next week's WIP day should be full of finishes.

a few little things...

Fall is a lovely time of the year!

Surprisingly we have a winter storm watch in effect starting tonight, so snow may be coming our way.  Of course, it may turn out to be sunny and warm instead, as these things are often wrong.

Today I will be sewing all day with a friend as we get ready for our craft fair.  And I am thrilled to report that the quilt squares we need to make prior to our quilt retreat are super simple.  That was one thing that seemed a bit out of reach as far as finishing in time.  I love when things are easy, especially when time is tight!

some pinteresting things

I made a bunch of soap this weekend for my upcoming craft fair, but the only reason that I made a "bunch" is because the first 2 batches didn't work out right.  One was soft like pudding, and the other one wasn't scented correctly, since I didn't check my essential oils prior to starting.  (Note to self: always check supplies on hand before I start making soap bars.)  This is in no way related to this post, but I thought I would include it anyway.  :)

the things about fall is...

...I love it!

Every year as summer comes to a close, I have a hard time letting go of the warm days and swimming pools and lemonade.  But once fall comes with it's 70 degree temps and beautiful trees blazing with color, I remember that fall is actually my favorite season.

It's simply perfect!

I love waking up in the morning and having to put socks on once my socks reach the cold tile floor.  And who doesn't love an apple pie made from fresh picked apples?  A corn-maze at night is so fun!  And buying a pumpkin and planning how to cut it is great!  And, of course, I love stew, and that is no good unless fall has rolled in.

Tomorrow the temps are supposed to be 75 and sunny, and that sounds like a park day to me.
