friday fun: favorite cereal

Happy Friday!

This week has been great since my daughter and her husband have been visiting.  It's been more like a vacation than anything.  Lots of time spent just doing what we want to.  I love that!

Today's Friday Fun question is simple:  What's your favorite cereal?  Not the one you eat every morning, but rather the one you wish you were eating.  It's probably loaded with sugar, but it's tremendously tasty.

Mine is Sugar Smacks.  Not sure if they are termed Honey Smacks now since I generally buy the store brand in the bag (tastes the same to me!).  I like to fill up a huge bowl, and then add milk so the cereal is pretty much spilling over the sides of the bowl, and then take huge bites with a soup spoon.  Oh my goodness, so yummy!  The most I buy this is once a year, so it's a pretty safe habit for me. I love that sugar-coated crunch!

friday fun: lacking in skill

Happy Friday!

The weekend is only hours away and it's time to be casual and fun.  Yeah!

Today's question is this:  What is one skill that you lack, but wish you had?

Mine is swimming.  Unless you consider dog-paddling an official swim stroke, I can't swim.  I hate having my face under water!  We have a pool in the backyard, and I go in quite often, but mostly just to get cool.  No swimming here.  Maybe someday, but I need to move past my fear of water covering my face!

Mine is Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go by Wham!

I have liked it since high-school and I was embarrased about it back then.  Still like it and I always feel like dancing when it comes on the radio.  My hubs thinks this song is the funniest, so he always makes fun of me.  What can I say?  It has a makes-me-want-to-move quality about it!

friday fun: what magazines do you subscribe to?

Friday is here! 

Is anyone besides me looking forward to the weekend?  The nice thing about the next couple of days is that there isn't much planned.  Free time is just around the corner.

Today's Friday Fun question is this: What magazines do you subscribe to?

Me?  Well, I subscribe to Better Homes and Gardens, Everyday Food, Living, and Popular Science.  BHG was given to me by a friend and I love it for the recipes.  The decorating tips are good too.  Everyday Food is a great food magazine.  Lots of recipes with fresh ingredients and they are all good (at least the ones I have tried).  Living comes every  month simply because I try to quit each year, but Martha always offers it to me so cheap when I don't renew right away, that I can't resist.   Popular Science started showing up regularly a while ago.  Never have I subscribed, but my son loves it, so I will probably renew once it expires. 

I get the most mileage out of BHG and Everyday Food.

friday fun: sweet cravings!

This week's questions is sweet!  Seriously!

Here it is:  You’ve got a craving for sweets, but it’s so late at night that only the corner convenience store is open. What do you get?

I could probably think of a few things for this sweet question, but what comes to my mind first is Raspberry Zingers.  Yum!  I haven't eaten those for years, but they are so scrumptious with a glass of milk.  The thing I love best is that there are 3 Zingers in each package, not just 2.  How fun is that?

friday fun: what great book have you read recently?

Happy Friday, friends!

Today's questions is this:  What great book have you read recently?

Sometimes I feel it's a bit unfair for me to pick these questions all the time, because I always pick something that is on my mind--and that makes it easy for me!

I just finished The Help and I loved it--LOVED it!  The main characters were wonderful and I was sad when the book ended.  The story takes place in the early 60's during the civil rights movement in Jackson, Mississippi.  The main characters some together to collect stories about the black maids who work in white households.  This was a very courageous thing to do at this time and I found myself wondering which character I would be in this book. I like to think I would have been one of the ladies who went against social norms and tried to change things.  If you haven't read this book, you need to!

friday fun: do you like peeps?

Happy Friday!  I hope you are all looking forward to a wonderful weekend!  I am ready for a break since this week has been spent trying to get back in gear after our vacation.  Am I the only one who needs a vacation from her vacations?  :)

Today's questions is about Peeps Easter Candy: thumbs up or thumbs down.

These are quite the controvertial candy!  The likers and the dislikers are divided into two camps, and I have never met anyone neutral about these sweets!  I guess taking sides in this argument is like picking a political party.  Once you are in, you stay there!

For me?  I give an enthusiastic thumbs down to these goodies.  I seriously can't stand Peeps.  Soft Marshmallow Fluff covered with crunchy yellow sugar doesn't float my boat!  At all!

Now give me a handful of Sour Patch Jelly Beans or Whoppers Robin's Eggs and we are in business!

friday fun: what is one healthy food you really, really like?

Happy Friday! 

Today I am spending the morning with my girl (dad and boys are off to work) and I am sewing with a friend this afternoon.  Sounds like a nice way to end a week, don't you think?

Today's question is: What is one healthy food you really, really like?

Me?

My first thought is cheese, but I am not so sure that it is considered really healthy.  Natural, yes.  Healthy, maybe.  The second food that comes to mind is strawberries.  I love them.  All be themselves. With a bit of sugar.  Covered in chocolate.  Topped with whipped cream.  Ooops!  I am supposed to focus on the healthy way to eat strawberries: all by themselves.  When we lived California I loved visiting a strawberry farm to pick.  You can not beat a strawberry warmed gently by the morning sunshine.  Pure heaven.

friday fun: what can't you live without?

Today's question is this: What luxury item can you not live without?

What thing, that is not a necessity, can you hardly make it through the day without? 

I have a few that I could mention, but for me it's my camera.  Sheesh!  It's hard to take a good picture with my little Kodak EasyShare.  I guess I know more about my nice camera than I thought I did!  I am very excited to say that a Canon Rebel T2i is on it's way to me right now. 

I. Can't. Wait.

Only a few days until I can drive my kids crazy with my camera.

I love it!

PS--if it wasn't for my camera being broken, I probably would have said the dishwasher.  I do 3 loads a day and I would NOT enjoy doing all of those dishes by hand!

friday fun: give me a jingle!

Ooops! I am almost forgot to post today!  Taking last week off was great for me because it helped to tame that "obssessive" feel I get towards blogging and I am enjoying a more "do it if I have something to say" attitude about it.  Always good for me!

Today is "give me a jingle" day.  All I want is for you to write down the first "jingle" that comes into your head and leave it in the comments.  By jingle I mean an advertisement for a product, probably from a commercial.

It's an old commercial for Libby's canned veggies.  For some reason I think of it regularly and sing it to my kids just to bug 'em.  Along with the Oscar Meyer Weiner song.  You know, on those days where I wish I could just be an OM weiner!
