4 fresh-squeezed years and a giveaway!

My little shop has been in operation for 4 years!  And, of course, I can't believe it's been that long already!

I am so thankful to all of my wonderful customers who allow me to supply their fabric needs and wants, and I also appreciate everyone who stops in here at my little blog every day.  You are all really too sweet for words!

This past four years has full of learning and figuring things out.  Honestly, it's just recently that I am really feeling the groove of how this retail business works.  The ins, the outs, the busy times, the slow times, what to buy, what to not buy, and just generally how to make a little business doing what I love.

The biggest thing I have learned recently is to focus on what's already working and build on that.  I have a tendency to want to try to new ideas and branch out, when sometimes it's good to focus on what is already working.  Having too many directions can lead to over-commitment and doing things halfway.

So, since it's my shop's birthday, we must have a little party, don't you think?  

And the best thing about parties?  The presents!

the color run

My lovely daughter accompanied me to The Color Run in Denver this weekend!  She was a really good sport AND managed to run the whole thing (without any prior practice running!) and she was lovely company.

There were over 10,000 runners participating!

At first everyone is in a white t-shirt, and that changes very quickly!

Next year I intend to get a group of friends together to form a team and to take some of my kid's friends.  They would have a blast!  Lots of people were wearing ridiculous and fun costumes!  And I think we should join that group of people!

Each runner gets a packet of colored powder to use at any time during the race.  And at each "K" you have to run through a color blitz (5 altogether), and let me say that some of the people throwing out the color are VERY enthusiastic!

If you have a Color Run in your area, I suggest that you get signed up ASAP since they sell out quickly!  This is a great run for anyone and it's perfect for families.

Now all I need to do is to find some people to run the Retro 5K with me!

a little something...

...for a little someone.

Sewing time has been scarse these days, but I hope that tonight will offer some free minutes for me to work on this little quilt.  

Today the temps are supposed to be in the 90's so I will be poolside supervising some giggly girls this afternoon.  And, anyway, sitting inside while the sun is shining is something that I want to do less of.  Sunshine always begs to be enjoyed, don't you think?

he made it!

He graduated high school this weekend!

And I am so proud of him.

My boy is kind, humble, delightful, goofy, sensitive, intelligent, discerning, encouraging and fun!

He will start working for my husband today and attending the community college in fall.  Whatever he does in the future, he will be successful, I am sure of it.  

Getting to a milestone like this is bittersweet, for sure.  Mothering is one of my favorite things to do because I get to hang out with my favorite people.  

Seriously, I adore my kids.

But sending them out into the world--essentially working myself out of a job--is the whole point of what I have been doing since they were born.  This is a crazy concept!  And sometimes it feels like a bit of a rip-off.

Looking over old photos to put together a slide show was a sweet time with my boy.  And it was so fun to see that over the years he hasn't changed a bit.  He has always been a bit of a goofball, and he has always given me a hard time when it comes to taking a picture.   But, really, that is part of his charm.

Congratulations, Micah,

I am so proud to call you my son.
