The much anticipated Good Folks Collection by Anna Maria Horner is in my shop! The colors in these are amazing and I can't wait to make myself a bag out of this line. The hard part will be picking out which fabrics to use!

I am not quite sure how I got myself into this!
I find myself surrounded with science-y things these days even though science is not my thing.
We are a part of the Science Olympiad group this year, so we are learning about Dynamic Planet, Amphibians, Environmental Chemistry, Robocross, Bridge Building and Trajectory. Add to that the Ecology team that we joined yesterday, and I am feeling way out of my league.
Lucky for me, my boys don't know that.
I am armed with a giant pile of books and I am posing as a confident, in-the-know homeschooling mom. So far I have them fooled. Thank goodness for the knowledge available on the library shelves.
Did I mention that I am also teaching an inventions class at our homeschool co-op?
Someone stop me! Or at least help me.
They're blinding me with science!

***my boy's antics (wrestling, practical jokes, etc.)

***phone calls from my girls (I get lots of these!)
What makes you happy today?
Saturday mornings have become my favorite of the week. My hubs takes the boys and they engage in manly pursuits while Aubry and I do girly stuff for a couple of hours. Usually we sew together, but this weekend she wanted to write stories on the computer.
Some of our time was spent in comfortable silence but she consistently piped up with, "How do you spell XYZ?" Words like raspberry and forehead and shape were starters, but eventually she made her way to more daring words like attacked and crocodile and kidnap, which led to a discussion about the types of stories we should engage in writing.
After that she decided to use a British accent to speak to me (I don't know where she gets this stuff!) and then wrote a story about British people eating strawberries--or stroo berets--as she called them.
All of this while I finished sewing some aprons and started making plans for some sundresses for my girl.
You can't get better than a Saturday morning!
My sale section is a little bigger so that I can make room on my shelves for new lines. I can't believe it is already to start thinking about spring and ordering new fabrics. No complaints though, because I love it! Too fun!

My boys are a constant surprise to me. I grew up with one sister, so being a mom to boys has been a huge learning experience for me. From early on I have had to learn to accept new things about boys, such as the fact that you can't call their underwear "panties". My hubs made sure of that one from the start!
Sometimes my guys surprise me in a way that gets me wondering what the heck they were thinking. Actually, that happens almost everyday. Boys are a different breed, for sure.
A couple of days ago I saw that Josiah had a big welt on his neck. Being the good mother that I am, I asked him what happened. He simply said, "Micah did it".
I quickly found Micah to get the story and he told me "Yes" he did it, but only because Josiah was licking the covers on his bed.
This seemed to be a reasonable story to them, but to me it seemed, well, so very boyish. Not only can I not remember ever--EVER--licking anyone's bedcovers, but I can't remember my girls ever doing that to each other either.
It all makes sense in the world of boys, I suppose. But to me, these guys are a mystery.

We had another perfect day yesterday! Before you get too jealous, let me say that snow and cold temps are in the forecast for this weekend, but we do have one more day of this perfect sunshine-y weather!
Aubry and Micah battled it out on the driveway playing roller-hockey. Aubry held her own with a dustpan-on-a-stick substituting for a hockey stick. With my hubs working a lot less than usual, we are making do with homemade substitutes for things we want but don't need. Hockey sticks are not a need, for sure!
Micah was nice enough to let Aubry win a few times until she became too prideful and he let her have it. She quickly lost her lead until Micah felt bad and eased up again.
He is such a sweet brother!
Someday my girl is going to realize that everyone lets her win because she is the littlest one and no one likes to see her disappointed. I am not sure that she is going to like that day too much!

The thermometer said 73 degrees today and let me tell you, it was heavenly! I had the windows open and the heater off and I loved it! Spring is just around the corner, right? Right?
Our cat even got in on the fun. She likes to go outside for just a few minutes and roll around in the dirt like a wild-woman and then run all panicked back into the house. She is a domestic kitty at heart: We met some friends at the park and the boys jumped and rode around and made me nervous. Why is it that kids like to test this limits of everything in life? Doesn't he know that scooters are made to touch the ground?:

The forecast is the same for tomorrow and all I know is that you will be able to find me outside while the sun is high in the sky.

Blueberry Cake is one of our favorite Sunday night dinners. On Sundays we almost never eat a regular dinner and we opt for something fun and sweet. The best thing about this cake is that there is usually some left over for breakfast the next morning---two meals in one!
Blueberry Cake
2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2/3 cup melted butter
2/3 cup milk
2 eggs
1-1/2 cups blueberries, frozen or fresh
1/3 cup sugar (for topping)
1/2 tsp. cinnamon (for topping)
Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl mix together the melted butter and the milk. Add to the dry mixture. Add the eggs and stir until combined. Pour this into a greased 9 X 13 cake pan. Sprinkle the blueberries over the top of the batter. Combine the sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over the berries.
Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes.
Enjoy for breakfast, lunch or dinner!
