Here we are on Let's Get Real Monday! The theme is "Spring Cleaning" and I think it is going to get dirty! Honestly, when it came time to take my pictures, I seriously wondered what I was thinking when I picked this topic, but alas, I have only myself to blame, don't I?
I suppose that I should start with the worst and work towards the not-so bad.
The biggest and easiest job to procrasinate on is that of the windows. We have a humidifier attached to our heater, which is great on those cozy winter nights, but it also tends to make it a little grimy around the casings of the windows. With the bright sun streaming in every morning I have had to adopt a "look up, look up" attitude or I find myself dwelling on the dirt. Of course, this doesn't prompt me to clean, just to obssess. Lucky for me my hubby is a deep-cleaning machine and once he gets started, he won't stop until the windows are sparkling, inside and out.
My next big project is my craft area, and this one is mine-all-mine when it comes to cleaning. I have things stacked on the ledge of the wall, and while these items used to have some sort of purpose, the ledge has turned into an all purpose place to throw my craft junk. Literally, I don't use anything on the ledge except for the basket of ribbon. The rest was just thrown there to be dealt with later. Well, apparently now is later!
Next up is my closet. What can I say, I guess I have an abundance of "toss it somewhere until I can deal with it later" types of places! Maybe I need to rethink this habit!?! I took the red comforter and the curtains down last weekend and put up something spring-y, and since my hubby wasn't home, I just did my best to stuff it on the shelf and I have been hoping it doesn't fall ever since. I figure if it does fall, it is soft and no one will get hurt! Also, my shoes, bags, scarfs, hats are a messy pile too and I think that some need to be given away. I always tell me kids that if they can't manage cleaning up their rooms and maintaining things, maybe they just have too much. This sounds like old "pot calling the kettles black", eh?
There you have it, all I can bear to show for today. Most likely I will be tackling these messes soon simply so I can post the "after" pictures.
If you played along please leave the link to your post in the autolink below. And I have to say "thank you" for being so brave and being a part of this edition of "Let's Get Real Monday"!

I'm first? Wow that never happens to me! I'm thrilled to be taking part in let's get real. I have a lot of work to do~

This should be fun! Nothing like a little embarassment to get me going. ;)

This isn't my most impressive mess ever--but it's my perennial stumbling block!

Hmm, my windows would have been another good choice. So many to choose from at my house!
Thanks for hosting this Randi!
hugs!

Thanks for hosting, Randi! I have a closet that looks much like yours, but I didn't include it--[unfortunately] I had too many other places to choose from! XO

If only my craft room looked that good!
Posted by: Felicia | March 26, 2007 at 04:57 AM
So, it looks to me like we live in the same house. Windows, my own hobby area and closets...okay, my situation may actually be more pathetic since it also involves my futility room.
Thanks for bringing the Get Real Monday back, Randi! (Maybe you need a little graphic for it?)

I have those same windows, but I will probably be the one cleaning them. I can say lots of nice things about my husband but I don't think I'll ever call him a deep-cleaning machine.

Your windows look just like mine!! I feel so much better. Maybe I could borrow your husband for just a little while...

I'm a little too shy for before pics, but I couldn't help but join the fun!
Thanks for the motivation!
(I've got paint peeling off of some window casings because of humidity levels during winter! Oy vey!)

We have the same problem -- the windows. I posted about the dirty window tracks, too.

Randi, I LOVE the colour of your craft room - what is it?
Posted by: Beck | March 26, 2007 at 09:20 AM
Here's just a little of the huge job I had, cleaning the tops of my cabinets! You're motivating me to clean more, aaaaahhhhgggg!!!

Thanks for hosting -- such fun to see everyone's "dirt"!

Having really little ones can make it tricky to get a lot done. I'm just afraid of living in disorder for the next 10 years while we finish having kids! ;) We're still planning on at least 2-3 more...

Thanks for starting this again, Randi! I expect this will motivate me to actually clean up a few of those messes. Including the one I was too embarassed to post.

Your sewing room looks clean compared to mine :(
Posted by: Beth | March 26, 2007 at 01:39 PM
Mh, yes, your craft area definitely needs attention. But I guess it's really not worse than the average craft area. Mine is tidy only when my parents come to visit.

Your hubby does windows? Does he give lessons? *LOL*
We have something in common... You'll have to come see what! *Wink*

Was blog surfing this weekend...came upon your site and decided to join in on Get Real Monday. I posted my pictures on my site. Thanks for the challenge. Now on to clean up my mess! :)

My windows get that same gunk! What is up with that? I have to keep certain ones clean or Joshua will get it all over him...ewww!
Your craft room looks like my library did a couple of weeks ago, no pictures, sorry! :-)

Do participants just leave a note saying when they have completed their projects so we can see the "after" pictures? How does that work?
Thanks!

You brave, brave woman! I'd love to know how you clean the dirt out of those window tracks. I can never seem to get them clean and then if it rains the dirt is all back!
Ah yes, and your craft room. I've decided that it's easier for me to see what fabric I have if I have little piles laying around instead of a big basket of fabric and it's really helped, although it's all on the floor. I'd love a little ledge in my room!

Love this idea! Thanks Randi!

I should probably do this every week! (and I love the color of your craft room too!)

Hi, I came from Autumn's blog! This looks like fun, I'm never brave enough to show "all" on my blog. Could I sign up for next week?

Thank you, thank you for this!
My windows look like that too, and it's my project for this week :l
I've been wondering how your daughter will fit all the skirts in her suitcase??? It's so exciting to see how many you have now!!

Wonderful Idea - I'm looking forward to next time! It's great seeing everyone else's and that so many seem to be the same trouble spots we all deal with.
You're so brave to put up a picture of your windowsills. Mine are totally scary. How do you get rid of the mildew? Please tell so that I can post a beautiful "After" photo of mine!
Posted by: Denise | March 27, 2007 at 01:26 PM
Hee hee - my bedroom closet looks the same as yours. I realize it's tuesday I am a day late and already posted for the day but tomorrow I will post a few "get real" shots. Such a great idea. Sometimes I think I am the only one in blogland that isn't perfect and has these hidden corners. Thanks for sharing yours! I'll post pictures tomorrow.

this may just be the kick in the pants i need to get started on some of my problem areas.

Well, I didn't ever get around to posting about your challenge... I had several things I wanted to do, a few that I did get accomplished and a few that I'm still working on. :) Still looking for the battery charger for my camera so I can share photos! I issued a challenge of my own today on my blog: reduce visual clutter. I'm trying to get my home office in order... I'm having company this weekend, so I've got lots of projects to finish... not to mention the laundry. LOL Stop by if you get a chance.
